Five-and-a-half years ago my father was suddenly rushed to the hospital for open heart surgery. At the time, we had no   1   that he was seriously ill. The surgery did not   2   well and he remained unconscious. Due to the laws of our state, we were   3   to keep him on a ventilator (呼吸器) for 72 hour s.

At the e nd of day two, I was sitting in the waiting room and was   4  others walk their fathers around. Usually, I am very    5   for others that are recovering,   6   this evening, I guess I was a little angry because I finally    7    I would never be able to hold my father’s hand and walk down the hall again.
